Why dose China hold a grand military parade on September 3rd?
It’s about memory, about sacrifice and above all, it is about peace. On September 3rd 1945, the world finally witnessed the end of the China’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. After 14 years of brutal struggle, China emerged scarred but unbroken. That day became a national day of remembrance.
It was not only a crucial part of the World Anti-Fascist War but also a great national liberation campaign that safeguarded China’s sovereignty, independence and national dignity. The hard-won victory laid a solid foundation for China’s subsequent development and rise. Since then, China has adhered to the path of peaceful development. It has achieved remarkable accomplishments in economic construction, scientific and technological innovation, and social progress. Today, China has grown into an important force in safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.
On September 3, the 80th Anniversary of China’s Victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was commemorated at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech and reviewed the troops.
Remembering this history is not only to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country but also to cherish the hard-earned peace. China will continue to carry forward the spirit of the War of Resistance adhere to peaceful development and the military parade held on September 3 will surely go down in history bearing witness to our resolve to safeguard peace.
A nation that forget its past has no future. The parade is about honoring the 35 million lives lost, the resilience of a nation that refused to surrender and the unshakable belief that peace must be defended.
